An authentic 18th-century copperplate engraving titled “The City of LOANGO,” depicting the historic pre-colonial capital of the Kingdom of Loango on the West African coast (Republic of the Congo).
Engraved by G. Child and published in London by Thomas Astley between 1745 and 1759 for his celebrated collection of historical voyages.
A rare visual record of pre-colonial African architecture, urban layout, and culture. The top-left corner features a prominent “References” key identifying major landmarks, including the King’s Palace, public gardens, the royal wine house, and the public court.
