This collection of 138 hand-colored wood engravings from the landmark ethnographic work “Moeurs, Usages et Costumes de tous les peuples du monde” (Manners, Customs, and Costumes of all the People of the World) authored by Auguste Wahlen aka Jean-François-Nicolas Loumyer. All works date between 1843-5.  

These plates are highly regarded for their detailed depictions of mid-19th-century dress from around the world, ranging from the royal courts of Asia to the indigenous tribes of the Americas and Oceania.

Jacques Grasset de Saint-Sauveur (1757–1810) £7 each print

The below hand-colored engravings are all the work of the French artist and diplomat Jacques Grasset de Saint-Sauveur (1757–1810). They come from two distinct but related series of works he produced to document world cultures.

The 1787 Prints: These belong to his first major work, Costumes civils actuels de tous les peuples connus (Current Civil Costumes of All Known Peoples), published in Paris by Pavard.

The 1805–1806 prints are from his third major encyclopedia, Voyages pittoresques dans les quatre parties du monde (Picturesque Travels in the Four Parts of the World), published by Madame veuve Hocquart in Paris in 1806, and primarily engraved by Lachaussée Jeune.

The below six prints are from the famous work “Modes et Costumes Historiques” (Historical Fashions and Costumes), designed and engraved by the Pauquet Brothers.
